Cranbrook 3D Design Students need YOU!
Mar 02, 2004 Posted by scott ( 1314 Reads)
| |
 |
|
 |
 |
Heads up! Here is a great opportunity for 3D animators- both beginner and expert, to work with other artists on a very cool project!
Cranbrook Institute's Scott Klinker is asking SEMAFX members (and guests) to meet with and collaborate with- his 3D Design students, who are working on a "blue-sky" conceptual project with a major plastics company.
This company has developed a range of 'designer plastics' for the future that have wild properties, like plastics that rust, patina, burn in the sun, simulate clay, biodegrade, etc.
The students have been asked to visualize product applications for these plastics.
They need modellers/animators who can help communicate the designs.
This project has a March/April Time Frame!
Please contact <A HREF="mailto:sklinker@cranbrook.edu" TARGET=_blank>Scott Klinker, Head of 3D Design at Cranbrook, if you're interested.
<A HREF="http://www.cranbrook.edu/" TARGET=_blank>cranbrook website
(read more)
The modeling is for visualization only (not 3D fabrication).
Since the end result is imagery, the physical aspects of the geometry can be 'quick and dirty'.
Since the project is about material qualities, it will present some opportunities to play with textures and shaders to create some impressive renderings.
In some cases, a 'before and after image' may be necessary to show a transformation, or even a quick animation, if time allows.
Each student will have a modest budget (less than $300) to spend to produce his/her project. Hey, it's not much, but it's gas money!
Mostly this is an opportunity to provide goodwill, promote SEMAFX, encourage young artists, enrich your own skills and build something really cool for your reel!
The project is likely to get press. All contributors will get a credit.
Because this is proprietary information, the sponsor company has asked us to wait until September to publish any work. You will be asked to agree not to display the products until then.
These collaborations would start in Mid March and finish in Mid April. The students would provide control line drawings for their designs and some storyboards of their communication goals.
Please contact <A HREF="mailto:sklinker@cranbrook.edu" TARGET=_blank>Scott Klinker, Head of 3D Design at Cranbrook, if you're interested or want more details.
